Whether we begin our
work with this step or wait until the end I believe there is great
power in having a sacred space somewhere in the home. “Altars” have
been used since the beginning of time for all kinds of rituals,
sacrifices and religious offerings. I believe that altars, no matter
how small or large, how simple or elaborate create a sacred space
and reminds us that there is a higher power. Dedication of sacred
space attracts the sacred into your life.
What kinds of items go on an altar, I have been asked. To speak from
my own experience some examples might be a feather that represents a
profound moment, a picture of “Amma” that reminds me to Love, a
statue of Hildegard to signify strength, clarity and boldness. Rocks
and crystals, angels and candles, pine cones and pictures that make
it easy to connect with the people, places and things that make up
our life experience. I love to step up to our altar and light a
candle. As I begin to clear my mind and receive messages for the day
I enjoy a warm glow of love, compassion, sometimes sadness, other
times laughter that come over me as I gaze upon the items that have
been laid upon the altar to be honored. Each visit is different and
wonderful and I leave feeling peaceful and guided. Your own personal
altar may include nothing more than a picture of your family and a
white candle or a small box that holds pieces of life’s treasures.
Change is the only constant in life therefore your altar will change
regularly in order to keep a good flow of energy in your daily life.
